Welcome to Hillsborough

A centrally located residential town with gorgeous historic homes.

Wealthy San Francisco merchants founded Hillsborough in 1846 as an exclusive enclave for the San Francisco elite. Residents quickly moved into the area to trade in city life for the peaceful countryside. Today, it retains much of its original Victorian charm through the beautiful and varied architecture found in the town. Residences in Hillsborough are primarily single-family homes on half-acre parcels at a minimum. This gives the area a slightly more rural feel, with houses set back from the tree-lined streets and hidden by long, winding driveways. Some of the area's most luxurious homes can be found in Hillsborough, including sprawling mansions with private lakes, resort-style facilities, and stunning Bay Area views. If you are looking for the best-of-the-best in the Bay Area, you'll find it in Hillsborough.

Hillsborough is unique in the Bay Area because it has no commercial zoning. The town is entirely residential. If you live here, though, you won't have to travel far to access some of the best establishments in the Bay. The nearby city of Burlingame serves residents as a town center with a terrific selection of upscale shopping, dining, and entertainment venues. Hillsborough is also well connected to the rest of the Bay Area and Silicon Valley, thanks to its proximity to highways 280 and 101. That makes it easy for residents to get around, whether commuting to the office or looking for a fun night out.

The town has an active events calendar serving a close-knit community. Events like the Memorial Day Parade and the Concours d'Elegance car show are well-attended by the local community and an excellent opportunity to get to know fellow residents. Living here also puts you within easy reach of events happening in surrounding areas, including Burlingame's charming downtown festivals and the nightlife scene in San Francisco.

Hillsborough City School District oversees the high-rated public schools in the area. There are also some notable and well-regarded private schools in the city, such as Nueva School and Crystal Springs Uplands School.
